Lockdown & Forgiveness

by | Jul 27, 2020

Lockdown Day 123. I have made many notes on this day. One reminding me of this day 47 years ago. The day my father shot my mother. Why did it take me nearly 20 years to forgive him? 20 years locked in a cell with the key in my pocket! The key of forgiveness opens every cell door.

For many people the past 123 days were extremely stressful. Small cracks in relationships before lockdown became large ones during. Anger became the new way of communication.

“If you are angry, don’t sin by nursing your grudge. Don’t let the sun go down with you still angry – get over it quickly; for when you are angry you give a mighty foothold to the devil.”
(Ephesians 4:26+27)

“So be careful how you act; these are difficult days. Don’t be fools, be wise, make the most of every opportunity you have for doing good.”
(Ephesians 15+16)

“Be gentle and ready to forgive; never hold grudges. Remember, the Lord forgave you, you must forgive others.”
(Colossians 3:13)

Only by forgiving one another totally can there be healing, can there be restoration, will love return. Impossible? No my friend, nothing is impossible for God. Why take 20 years before turning the key of forgiveness and become free? These are difficult days, choose wisely, don’t give up, persevere and choose life over death.

“Jesus looked at them intently and said, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God everything is possible.”
(Matthew 19:26)

    Nico,
You are right, some of us are walking for years with keys if forgiveness in our pockets. You gave a practical experience of yourself and that is commendable. Thank you for the inspiration and may the Lord bless and keep you. Amen.

    Nico my broer,
Dit neem waagmoed om so ‘n diep seer met die wêreld op hierdie platvorm te deel en dit op so ‘n manier te doen dat dit vir elkeen van ons ‘n ewige lewensles inhou.
Ons lees so graag Matt. 6:14&15 mis.
    BLESSINGS!!!

God deals with us in a way we do not deserve. He chooses to remember our transgressions no more and cast them into the sea of forgetfulness. I am so grateful towards Him for treating humanity this way. Forgive and only them you can begin to forget. Nico, appreciate your sensitivity to the Spirit but also your vulnerability in this weighty matter. God bless you dear friend! So the only unpardonable sin is the sin we choose not to forgive. May God help us to excel in forgiving others and ourselves as He forgave us first.
