A few years ago, while travelling back from Cape Agulhas, Anita and I stopped in the little town of Napier. We wandered through a few small cottage shops and bought a beautiful piece of pottery for our beach house.
While I was paying, the elderly lady’s husband said, “Come, let me show you something,” and led me down into his cellar. He made small pewter chest pieces and other ornaments. Looking around, I wondered who bought these items, but I purchased a small chess set to support him.
As I was leaving, he handed me a small pewter soldier and said:
“Put this on your desk, and whenever you see it, remember to pray the Armour of God over yourself and your family.”
That little soldier has stood on my desk for years. Every morning after my prayer time, I reach for my Bible and daily devotional books and accidentally knock it over. Each time, I’m a bit irritated but knew this was God gently reminding me to pray His Armour over myself, Anita, our family, and our businesses.
What a beautiful blessing grew from that simple and unexpected little gift.
Lord, I pray that You would clothe every reader of this blog with Your Armour:
- The Belt of Truth – help them walk in honesty, integrity, and truth.
- The Breastplate of Righteousness – guard their hearts and minds and let what is planted in them bring glory to You.
- The Shoes of the Gospel of Peace – give them purpose, stability, and a desire to share Your love wherever they go.
- The Shield of Faith – strengthen them against fear, doubt, and negativity.
- The Helmet of Salvation – protect their thoughts and fill them with hope, peace, and understanding.
- The Sword of the Spirit – guide them through Your Word in their lives, decisions, and relationships as You have guided me over the years.
Amen.
Never underestimate what one small act of kindness can do. You may never know the huge impact it will have on someone else’s life.
